Isis of the Wildflowers
‘Isis of the Wildflowers’ is my tiniest portrait painting to date, but somehow still has the mightiest of feels. My muse for this work is a traveling singer/songwriter from London named Vedina Rose who has quite the exuberant and adventurous spirit, with a little pirate-priestess sprinkled in.
Because of Vedina’s uncompromising strength and fearless voice, a reassuring presence in a world of confusing current events and ever changing risks, I felt the namesake of Isis would be suiting. Isis is the Ancient Egyptian goddess of life and magic and is known as a protector, so I wanted to portray this deity surrounded by all the rebirth and freshness of springtime, showing the rejuvenating sun shining upon her glowing skin as she holds a was-scepter like a pharaoh or shepherd watching their flock.
‘Isis of the Wildflowers’ is comprised of an oil painting on Belgian linen with an aerosol background, dried plants collected on my hikes in Tennessee, and gold leafing ensconced in clear acrylic resin.
